To kick off, because we know the term won’t be familiar to everyone, what is a digital nomad?
In essence, digital nomads are people who use technology to enable them to work remotely and live a nomadic lifestyle.
Some people use phrases like ‘location independence’ or ‘lifestyle independence’.
Basically it is people who can work from pretty much anywhere in the world that there is an internet connection!
So, why does this life attract us?
Firstly, because we were already living a semi digital nomad lifestyle even before taking the plunge to formalize things a bit and move to the Canaries. We’ve been working remotely for projects in other parts of the UK and at times across the world.
Secondly, because we feel like an adventure. We have both travelled a lot, we got married in 2014 and we want to create some new memories together and see a bit of the world.
Thirdly, because now seems like the right time. We have both achieved a few things in ‘conventional’ careers and we would like to spread our wings a bit and experience different cultures and environments.
Fourthly, because it gives us flexibility. We plan to stay in the Canaries for a few months and then after that we have a few ideas bubbling away but no firm plans. That’s a really exciting position to be in.
Fifthly, because why not? We know how incredibly lucky we are to live in a time in history when people can do things like this; to have passports that allow us to go where we want; to have our health and supportive friends and family. If we miss home we can come back for a bit, we don’t have any plans set in stone.
